Community Grief Ritual

  • Elley-Long Music Center 223 Ethan Allen Avenue Colchester, VT, 05446 United States (map)

With reverence, we extend our arms open, and welcome you into a container of holding, expressing, embodying, and releasing the grief that you may carry.

As we collectively transition out of quarantine, finally able to gather again, we see this prime opportunity to come together and do the necessary work of processing our personal and communal grief. The past year and a half has held untold pain from isolation, virus and death, political tumult, racist state violence, more and more mass shootings, and an ever-unfolding climate crisis. So many of our personal lives experienced disruption and breakdown throughout the pandemic, reflecting the larger collapse of unsustainable, uncaring systems around us.

Grieving - full, messy, unfiltered grieving - is an essential medicine for an ailing, heartsick soul. Here in the west, we often lack the space and support - even the knowledge and skills - to fully delve into a complete, cathartic grieving experience - particularly one that is communally held. In response, we feel called to create opportunities to learn about, and practice, the powerful art of processing grief.

We invite you to join us for a three-part gathering. We will form a deeply supportive community, learning how to hold each other as we step bravely, humbly, and open-heartedly into grief. Together, we will be present with whatever comes up, and allow space for whatever needs to unfold, to move, to die, or to come alive.
